Try this original Anna Kendrick action flick

2015 feels like an eternity now. President Obama was completing his second term in the White House. Apple released its first wearable device, the Apple Watch, in April of that year. HBO launched the standalone streaming service HBO Now, with other networks like CBS and Showtime also launching their own streaming offerings. And a few months after Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the White House, in a now infamous speech at Trump Tower, a new action thriller (titled Mr. Right, with Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell) landed in theaters that I had missed at the time. And probably yours too. But it’s one of the many overlooked titles that are as good an option as any when looking for what to watch on Netflix.

Indeed, it never ceases to amaze me how often movies that have come and gone in theaters without any attention can find new life on Netflix. It’s there that Mr. Right is available to stream now.

Sometimes when you open Netflix you’re looking for the trending new original series that everyone is buzzing about. Or maybe a gripping action thriller. And then there are times when you just want some crazy entertainment. Nothing that is going to win any prizes anytime soon. But something that’s just fun, without taking itself too seriously.

This movie is pretty much exactly that. A romantic comedy, with two protagonists who obviously have excellent chemistry. And with a few action scenes added, for good measure. “Fresh from a bad relationship,” the film’s landing page on Netflix read, “Thrill-seeker Martha finds romance and danger with Francis.”

Francis, however, is a hit man. To further complicate matters, he “decided to turn the situation around on his clients”.

Rotten tomato note

Rotten Tomatoes’ ratings for Mr. Right are, needless to say, quite excruciating. Critics score abysmally 44%, based on 54 reviews. However, viewers seemed to have liked the film slightly better. The audience score currently stands at 56%, based on over 5,000 user reviews.

“Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick work well together,” reads the Rotten Tomatoes Critics’ Consensus. “Corn Mr. Right is too much of a tonal mess to take advantage of their chemistry.
