A planned remake of Lowering director Joe Carnahan recently turned into an entirely different project, but another new take on the Indonesian fight movie has now appeared.
Deadline reports that Michael bay is on board to produce an American remake of Lowering for Netflix, with the original director Gareth evans also involved as an executive producer.
Patrick Hugues (The Expendables 3, the hitman’s bodyguard, the hitman’s wife’s bodyguard) is directing, and he will also co-write the screenplay with Jacques Beaufort.
Deadline recalls, “The original film was written and directed by Evans and followed an elite Indonesian SWAT team who are trapped in a building run by a ruthless gangster and his army of killers and thugs.” The 2011 film received a sequel directed by Evans in 2014.
The site adds, “This version takes place in the drug-infested ‘Badlands’ of Philadelphia, an elite, undercover DEA task force is climbing the ranks of cartel informants to catch an elusive pivot.”
