A mega man The film has been in development with Chernin Entertainment for a long time and rumors have been circulating for a long time about its move to Netflix, but can we definitely say a mega man is the movie still coming to netflix? The answer seems to be yes.
Rumors of a Mega Man movie hitting Netflix have been circulating for years. The Mega Man movie IMDb page has been listing Netflix for some time, but we don’t have an official word from the streamer yet, so let’s recap everything we know so far.
For those who don’t know it, Mega Man is one of Capcom’s biggest games which saw its first release in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Dozens of game releases later (and many other media formats as well), the franchise is still huge to this day.
The story of the movie Mega Man
Let’s go back a second while the mega man the film has been in development for some time.
In September 2015, Chernin Entertainment was attached to a mega man live action draft scheduled to be released by 20th Century Fox. Chernin Entertainment was notably working with 20th Century Fox at this point.
It was later announced that Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman were announced to write and direct the project. More info on these two in a second. Additionally, other reports have indicated that Masi Oka will be producing and Mattson Tomlin will be on the writing team as well.
Additionally, Capcom has stated that the film will be “an adaptation that keeps the world of mega man games while incorporating the great production and entertainment value for which Hollywood films are known.
The project has since been incredibly quiet since that initial announcement, with work going under the radar. It was even believed that Disney had abandoned the project in 2019 following its acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
That was until April 2020 when it was announced that Chernin Entertainment was signing a brand new first look deal with Netflix. This led many to believe that the film would eventually make its way to Netflix. But again, radio silence on mega man until later that year.

In August 2020, Mattson Tomlin spoke briefly to Polygon about the mega man movie saying it was still in development but didn’t mention where it would land. He did say, however, that it would be “universal, primal and emotional and everyone can kind of relate to” adding, “I’m really excited about this script. I’m really excited about what the guys are going to do with it. movie and I hope there will be some news about it soon.
Now, fast forwarding to December 2021, some eagle-eyed fans have spotted an update to the Super Marche website, which is the site of the production company run by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.
The part that interests us the most is the section that says:
“Henry, Rel and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss maintain an active development list. Among the features in preparation: an adaptation of Capcom MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and direct ”
While everything but officially confirms, we’ll see mega man come to Netflix.

Everything we know about the Netflix movie Mega Man
Moving Picture Company (MPC) is listed among Film Special Effects Company on IMDb. Again, no official confirmation of their involvement beyond them is listed here, but it’s worth noting that they’ve done a lot of projects where animation is included in actual shots. They also worked on FX american horror story.
Going back to the aforementioned Polygon interview, Matt Tomlin was asked if the film would look like Sonic the Hedgehog (which also recently got a live-action adaptation) where he replied:
“I think it’s something the kids will enjoy. I don’t want to say what our compositions are because that might betray a little too much, but it’s not squarely in the territory of the children. But I don’t think it’s an R-rated movie either. “
IMDb has updated the project to be in pre-production starting December 5, 2021.
