Announced earlier this summer, Australian writing-directing team Hake and Cameron Cairnes (100 bloody acres, fear campaign) then pass behind the camera to Late night with the devilwith David Dastmalchian (Dune, the suicide squad) as the host of a late-night talk show that goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil in living rooms across the nation.
Late night with the devil follows the live broadcast of a late-night talk show in 1977, and the producer Roy Lee (That, the grudge, the ring) told Bloody Disgusting The Boo Crew Podcast in an interview that will be posted soon that it will be a very unique kind of horror movie.
“We just wrapped up Late night with the devil“, says Lee. “I almost didn’t read the script, because I was like, ‘That’s such a corny title. There’s no way this movie is anything that isn’t just a movie B.’ But then someone I trust said to me, ‘You have to read this script.’ I’m so glad I read the script. I don’t know if anyone remembers The Larry Sanders Show. Imagine this, and it’s the last episode shot because Larry decides to do an on-air exorcism that goes wrong and made it the last episode.
Lee continues, “It’s made as if it were an actual TV show, and when there are commercial breaks, the aspect ratio of a traditional movie is cut. So you see it almost like a docu-movie style, behind the scenes as they shoot this episode. David Dastmalchian kills him. He could be the next talk show host to replace Conan or anybody else because he’s so good at it.
“This one, I have a feeling, is going to surprise a lot of people.”
Spooky Pictures founders Roy Lee (That, the grudge, the ring) and Steven Schneider (Pet sematary, paranormal activity, insidious), Derek Dauchy (“Al Kameen”) and Mat Govoni (“Lone Wolf”) and Adam White (“Lone Wolf”) and John Molloy of Future Pictures are all producing.
Joel Anderson (Lake Mungo), Rami Yasin and David Dastmalchian are the executive producers.
Next up for mighty producer Roy Lee is the highly anticipated Barbaric20th Century Studios and the New Regency thriller which hits theaters September 9, 2022.
