Kevin Hart has been one of a few legendary comedic couples over the years, alongside Will Ferrell, Ice Cube and, of course, his best friend Dwayne Johnson. Then, the comedian joins forces with Venomby Woody Harrelson for a fun action movie titled The man from Toronto. In a shakeup of the film, it will arrive on streaming instead of theaters this summer.
The man from Toronto would be available exclusively for those who have a Netflix subscription later this year, by Variety. The decision rests with a previous agreement between Sony and Netflix a year ago regarding the streaming service securing the rights to the studio’s films after an 18-month theatrical exclusivity window. Or in The man from TorontoIn Sony’s case, a number of Sony movies will instead skip their theatrical releases and go straight to Netflix, instead of the studio not having its own streaming service to call its own.
In the upcoming action-comedy, Woody Harrelson will play “the world’s deadliest assassin,” while Kevin Hart’s character is described as “New York’s biggest screw-up.” These two characters end up getting confused during an Airbnb rental, and hijackings ensue. Harrelson replaced Jason Statham in 2020with Statham abruptly leaves The man from Toronto apparently due to “creative differences”, particularly in terms of the film’s intended rating. Statham would have liked The man from Toronto be rated R, as the studio opted for a PG-13 release for a Thanksgiving weekend slot. That never happened anyway thanks to COVID-19 delays.
Kevin Hart has been seen frequently on Netflix lately in projects like last year’s touching family film Paternity and the miniseries True story. At the end of 2021, it boarded a Netflix action movie titled Liftin addition to already having comedy me time for the streaming service. Plus, Hart will star in DC’s upcoming animated movie. DC League of Super Petsthe Borderlands adapting and Monopoly movie, based on the game of the same name.
Woody Harrelson appeared in the 2021 Netflix action movie kate alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The actor also recently starred as the villain in the Venom after let there be carnage recently, while resuming his zombieland role in the 2019 follow-up alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone.
It will be exciting to see Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson working side by side on screen for the first time. The man from Toronto was directed by Patrick Hughes, who directed both The Hitman’s Bodyguard films with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson. He was also the director of 2014’s The Expendables 3 with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford.
The previous release date for The man from Toronto was August 12, but it’s currently unclear if the date will stick as it moves to Netflix movie schedule in 2022. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about this upcoming action comedy.
