Get Ready, A Pac-Man Live-Action Movie Is Currently In Development

Picture: Bandai Namco

We all remember where we were when Paramount Pictures released the first trailer of the 2020s sonic the hedgehog and the internet has been inflamed by their discomfort with live blue blur (the horror of those teeth and eyes still keeps us awake at night). Well, we can prepare for another trip to the strange valley because THR announced that Pac-Man would be the latest video game legend to make his way into the live-action world.

The project is currently being spearheaded by Bandai Namco Entertainment (no surprise there) and Wayfarer Studios, and is said to be based on an original idea from Sonic the Hedgehog mastermind Chuck Williams.

Now, even though people have been making a fuss about the idea of a live-action Sonic movie, Williams has to be thanked for pitching the idea in the first place. The first two films were such box office hits that the third has already received a release date. But can Williams really win gold twice?

The problem with Pac-Man is that, unlike Sonic, he will always appear out of place in the real world. Sure, Sonic’s blue fur, bulging eyes, and overall human-like hedgehog walk made him something you wouldn’t expect to see on your daily commute, but at least his vague human resemblance meant that you could believe in him as a character as much as you can in any other CG creation.

Pac-Man, ironically, just isn’t complete enough by comparison. While Sonic had quips and quick legs, Pac-Man is theoretically just a hungry little ball. Games like Pac-Man World demonstrate that our spherical friend can be anthropomorphized to some degree, but would the studio make it look After human, and if so, how? Eyelashes? Pores? Please for god’s sake don’t give her the nails…

We have no idea of the release date or casting news just yet (please Chris Pratt, please Chris Pratt…) but we can be pretty sure the movie is still a few years away. This leaves Illumination super mario movie to fill the void in Hollywood’s much-needed video game adaptations until then.
