A live-action adaptation of the popular survival horror video game Five nights at Freddy’s is in development at Blumhouse, with The wind director Emma Tami on board to direct. She will also pen the script with game creator Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.

“When I met Emma, I felt she had a great understanding of the franchise, and I really felt she could create something that would appeal to the fan base and keep people on. the edge of their seat, Cawthon said in a statement via Variety.

There have been several previous attempts to get a FNAF film from the ground, with Chris Columbus (Harry Potter Home Alone) attached to direct in 2018. An earlier version was in the works at New Line with Gil Kenan at the helm.

The first game launched in 2014 for PC and consoles, and was set in a Chuck E. Cheese-like children’s restaurant called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where animatronic creatures come to life and run wild after dark. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop was hired to create the sinister group of children’s mascots.
