Big-budget fantasy projects are on the rise on Netflix, with a whole slew of the streaming service’s most popular original efforts fitting into the genre well. The witcher, Damn and Warrior nun all attracted high viewing numbers, while Shadow and bone Still hovers around the list of 10 most watched and the upcoming adaptation of DC Sweet tooth has all the ingredients for another great success.
On the cinema side, meanwhile, the streaming giant is currently working hard on the reboot. Chronicles of Narnia as Millie Bobby Brown prepares to fight a dragon in Young lady and Keanu Reeves seeks to bring his BRZRKR comedic in both live-action and animation. Another great fantasy project has just started as well, with Charlize theron about to star in Paul Feig The school of good and evil.
The project is still in its early stages, but the actress took to Twitter this week to share some photos of herself in her character (playing Lady Lesso), and you can check them out below.
Based on the series of books by Soman Chainani, The school of good and evil takes place in a location known as Endless Woods and tells the story of best friends Sophie and Agatha and their time at the titular learning institute, where they are trained to be heroes or villains. Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie are expected to star in the two lead roles, while the supporting cast sees Kerry Washington, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh join Theron.
Obviously, Netflix is positioning this one as a big franchise launcher and there’s no reason to think it won’t. Admittedly, Feig’s latest attempt to launch a new franchise didn’t go so well (see: 2016 ghost hunters), but with Charlize theron in the lead role and a solid ensemble backing her, we’re certainly optimistic about The school of good and evil.
