After premiering at Fantasia last summer, the zombie horror film Sadness has now been acquired by quiverwith the film which will debut on the platform on May 12, 2022.
Director Rob Jabbazthe first feature film by, Sadness centers on “a young couple, played by Regina Lei (76 Horror Bookstore) and Zhu Berant (We are champions, How to train your dragon), trying to reunite in the middle of a city ravaged by a plague that turns its victims into deranged, bloodthirsty sadists.
Tzu Chiang Wang (it’s drizzling) and To Ru Chen also starred in the film.
“It was such a pleasantly bizarre trip to get Sadness produced and distributed! I’m incredibly excited for everyone to finally see it! Rob Jabbaz tells Deadline.
“From the moment we first saw Sadness, we knew it was something special. The film reaches heights rarely seen in the horror space. Rob Jabbaz is definitely a talent to watch,” said Raven Banner managing partner Michael Paszt. “Shudder is unquestionably the home of The Sadness and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them.”
Meagan wrote in her 4-star Fantasia review, “Jabbaz keeps a deadly grip on the pulse of the current climate, delivering a rage-filled manifesto that aims to tick off every possible cinematic taboo and tests your gag reflex in the process. It is a transgressive horror of the highest and most aggressive order.
