Chris Evans has been cast in Dwayne Johnson’s new holiday action flick, The Red. WWE’s favorite star-turned-action hero recently enjoyed a hit tear after a brief hiatus due to the pandemic. In 2021, The Rock starred in Disney’s action-adventure Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt and followed up with a star-studded heist film for Netflix, red notice, which also stars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. His DCEU Superhero Movie black adam is now in post-production, though Johnson has another intriguing project in the works.
In June 2021, Johnson agreed to star in a mysterious Christmas movie for Amazon Studios that would reunite him with Hobbs & Shaw screenwriter Chris Morgan and Jumanji director Jake Kasdan. Although the specific plot details for The Red are secrets, it’s billed as a globe-trotting action-adventure comedy that imagines a “a whole new world to explore” in the genre. Needless to say, The Red is shaping up to be a total holiday party, and as with any movie starring The Rock, it has a chance of either making waves at the box office or posting record numbers for a streaming service.
Now, The Red added another high profile actor to its cast. According to Deadline, Chris Evans has been selected to star alongside Dwayne Johnson in Amazon Studios’ upcoming holiday event. For now, Johnson and Evans are the only confirmed cast members for the film, though more stars are likely to be added soon.
Evans is best known for his role as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although Avengers: Endgame likely marked the end of his time in the blockbuster movie franchise. After the MCU, Evans lined up a string of promising projects, such as the Buzz Lightyear origin story, in which he voices the titular astronaut, and the Russo Brothers Netflix movie. The gray man, in which he plays the antagonist, CIA agent Lloyd Hansen. Now, The Red can be added to this list.
Johnson and Evans both appeared in free guy yet last summer The Red will be the first time they’ve received top billing together, an exciting prospect for fans eager to see the two movie stars team up. Although Evans’ time in the MCU seems to be over, this holiday movie will give him the chance to get back to his comfort zone, because The Redthe tone has been compared to the Marvel movie guardians of the galaxy. With its two stars now installed, seek The Red to continue adding cast members in the coming weeks.
