Big-budget fantasy has become a specialty of Netflix, with many of the streaming service’s most popular original movies and TV shows falling firmly within the genre’s boundaries. The witcher, Damn and Warrior nun all of them attracted solid audience figures, while Shadow and bone Continues To Dominate The Top 10 List And Upcoming DC Adaptation Sweet tooth promises to be another major success.
On the feature film side, there are many exciting projects under development, with the platform being rebooted. Chronicles of Narnia as Millie Bobby Brown prepares to fight a dragon in Young lady and Keanu Reeves moves to bring his BRZRKR both live and in animation. Netflix’s Next Big Fantastic Hope has also just started filming, with Charlize theron set to continue its successful working relationship with the company by being the headliner of Paul Feig The school of good and evil.
Based on Soman Chainani’s book series, the story takes place in a location known as Endless Woods and follows best friends Sophie and Agatha as they attend the titular learning institute, where the young are trained to become heroes or villains, with our fearless heroines being naturally separated. Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie will play the two lead roles, while the supporting cast will see Theron joined by Kerry Washington, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh.
The last time Feig tackled the fantastic blockbuster it didn’t go very well, but he’s a solid filmmaker with the right material and the cast alone is enough to make sure that The school of good and evil deserves to be watched as it progresses in production.
