Brad Pitt action movie gets new life streaming

Brad Pitt’s World War Z is currently streaming in the top 10 on Amazon Prime Video.

Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, secured the film rights to the 2006 novel a year after its release. The project is known to have suffered significant setbacks during post-production.

Re-shoots and other mishaps caused the production budget of World War Z go up to 190 million dollars. Several action scenes involving Brad Pitt were cut from the film. The entire third act was reportedly redone, and a scene of Pitt’s character battling a swarm of zombies was removed entirely.

Despite all the post-production issues, World War Z still grossed over $540 million worldwide. Reviews were mixed on the final product, with some saying the film was “uneven” and deviated too much from the source material. The Daily Telegraph Robbie Collin blamed post-production issues for the film’s “elaborate uselessness”. After the film’s release, news of a sequel starring Brad Pitt began circulating online; however, the project encountered some problems.

According to a 2012 Los Angeles Times report, filmmaker Marc Foster and Paramount were interested in doing a World War Z trilogy. Following the success of Brad Pitt’s zombie pic, Paramount has announced that it is moving forward with a sequel. Independent wire reported in December 2013 that jurassic world director JA Bayona had been chosen to helm the project.

Paramount announced in January 2016 that Bayona had moved away from the sequel due to other commitments. Variety later reported in 2016 that Brad Pitt’s sequel was eyeing Seven director David Fincher. Then in October 2018, producer Dede Gardner claimed the project was going into production for July 2019. Brad Pitt was reportedly still cast to reprise his role from the first episode, though there were doubts Fincher was still involved. A source quoted by THR suggested that the Chinese government’s ban on films featuring zombies or ghosts was the sole reason for the project’s cancellation.

After all the drama, the Brad Pitt-led Zombie Project is still nowhere to be found. The actor has since continued to work with his production company and starred in numerous other projects, including the most recent High-speed train. Pitt also made headlines for being in talks with rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Regardless of any expansion plans The Second World War, the film still had a huge impact and received numerous nominations. In 2013, World War Z earned a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the Satellite Awards. Actress Abigail Hargrove has earned a nomination for Best Young Leading Actress in a Feature Film for her work as Rachel Lane, the daughter of Brad Pitt’s character.

Although it would be interesting to see Brad Pitt return to the World War Z universe, he definitely has more pressing business to attend to. His ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, has accused him of abusing her and their children. The ex-couple’s drama apparently involved the FBI.

Brad Pitt, however, doesn’t let his drama get in the way of his love for the art. CNN reported in September 2022 that Pitt donate the sculptures which he created after his rocky divorce from Angelina Jolie at the Sara Hilden Art Museum in Tampere, Florida. He was Pitt’s first artist, whose pieces ranged from small to large scale.

World War Z isn’t the only Brad Pitt film to attract streaming viewers. Curiously, his action project with Angelina Jolie, Mr and Mrs Smithwould have landed on Netflix and attracted a lot of attention. One has to wonder if the interest in these films will spark ideas from studio executives to continue the franchise. While a Mr and Mrs Smith the sequel seems unlikely, World War Z 2 may still have a chance.
