The romance directed by Bella Thorn Time is up was recently released on Amazon Prime, where it climbed the charts to become the second most popular movie on the streaming platform according to FlixPatrol. The popularity may be short-lived as many early reactions were quite negative and audiences reached it with a 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film follows Bella Thorne opposite her fiancé Benjamin Mascolo, where they play a dedicated physics student and poor swimmer. Vivien (Thorne) has a stuck up boyfriend who neglects her, but she seems to put off her search for happiness in the future. Roy (Mascolo) had a traumatic childhood and his past always seems to prevent his happiness. An accident forces the pair to finally start living in the present, and the unlikely couple unexpectedly find themselves falling deeper in love.

Thorne cemented his place in the film industry, appearing in numerous projects such as The Duff, by Adam Sandler Mixtureand city of paradise. Mascolo, on the other hand, has very little acting experience and this is his first major credit.

Directed by Elisa Amoruso, the film already has a sequel in pre-production, but Thorne and Mascolo don’t appear to be returning for that film. According to IMDb, the sequel will instead star Simone Coppo (I Know This Much is True), Alma Noce (Avengers: Age of Ultron), and Michael E. Rodgers.

It is still early days, and it is possible that the first reactions to Time is up could be inaccurate. It remains to be seen if the film is doomed with other flops or if it will remain popular on the streaming platform.
